Sensing interactions between molecules

CeNTech scientists develop a method to visualize interactions between molecules with exceptional resolution in real-space. The method is based on low-temperature atomic force microscopy (AFM) and uses a copper-based probe tip, which is terminated by a single oxygen atom. The team around Dr. Harry Mönig, Dr. Saeed Amirjalayer and Prof. Harald Fuchs demonstrates the exceptional mechanical and chemical stability of this atomically defined probe tip. These properties allow a spatial resolution on the sub-molecular scale allowing to visualize the bonding structure of a hydrogen bonded molecular network. This study has now been published in Nature Nanotechnology.

Inauguration workshop for TEM at CeNTech

On occasion of the inauguration of a state of art transmission electron microscope (TEM) by the CeNTech research group of Prof. Gerhard Wilde a workshop was organized at CeNTech. The new FEI Titan Themis G3 300 allows analysis and characterization of materials with (sub-) atomic resolution. Guest of honor was Prof. Hans-Peter Karnthaler, a pioneer in this field, who had set up the first TEM facility at Vienna already in 1970.

Successful CeNTech start-ups

For three CeNTech start-ups 2017 was extraordinarily successful. Polytaksys GmbH finalized the pre-commercial development of the “Open monitor Chip”. Monasterium Laboratory GmbH (founded in 2015) moved from the CeNTech to the NBZ to keep up with the company`s expansion. As already reported Evorion Biotechnologies received the “Founders award” of the University of Münster.
